2020 Australia Day Honours

Three outstanding members of the Pearcey family were recognised in the 2020 Australia Day Honours lists. All were named Members (AM) General Division, Order of Australia:

  1. Geoff Huston (Pearcey 2015 Hall of Fame) - Service to science, and through pioneering roles with the internet
  2. John O'Callaghan (2005 Pearcey Medal) - Service to information technology, and to education
  3. Peter Thorne (Member Pearcey National Executive) - Service to computer science education and to history

These awards recognise, not only the outstanding contribution these three individuals have made to the Australian ICT sector, but also the high regard with which the Australian Tech sector is now being held - three AMs on the one day is quite remarkable and notable. Congratulations from all in our industry.

We would also like to recognise Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell, who was made an Officer (AO) General Division, for her service to education, particularly to the social sciences and cultural anthropology. Genevieve has spoken often of Trevor Pearcey and CSIRAC and their role in Australia's technological position globally.
