2022 Pearcey Entrepreneur Award

The 2022 Pearcey National Entrepreneur Award was presented to Dr. Mark Englund founder and CEO of FiberSense, by Hon Madeleine Ogilvie MP, Minister for Science and Technology. The award was presented in Hobart as part of the prestigious 2022 Pearcey National Awards held in conjunction with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and TasICT.

Commenting on Dr Mark Englund’s award, Rick Harvey (Chief Judge, Pearcey Foundation) said,

All of our 2022 State Entrepreneurs of the Year are superb examples of ‘taking a risk, making a difference, and being an inspiration’. Mark is a fantastic representative for this group; as an awesome entrepreneur, battling against all odds to successfully bring to the world some amazing, innovative, ground-breaking, and all-Australian technology that is making an impact on the global technology stage.

Dr. Mark Englund attained his PhD in Physics in 2004 in the field of optical fibre sensors. He founded his first business in 2001 which was acquired by US submarine telecom cable supplier TE SubCom in 2010. After working in the US, Mark moved back to Sydney and founded FiberSense in 2015. FibreSense provides services capable of sensing objects and events as diverse as speeding vehicles, high-resolution seismic measurements and tsunami detection. FibreSense has raised $55m in funding and customers include Amazon, Google and Meta.
