2012 Tas Award

The 2012 Tasmanian Pearcey Award for mid-career ICT entrepreneurs was presented to Jared Hill, CEO & Co-Founder of eight year old insight4, a thirty man Professional Software Services company based in Hobart.

The award was made at an event on 12th July 2012 held at the Henry Jones art house Hotel in Hobart as part of the 2012 iAwards hosted by the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

The Pearcey Award was presented to Mr Hill by the Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, the Hon. David O’Byrne MP. This was the second official joint iAwards in Tasmania under the new tripartite arrangement between the ACS, the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the Pearcey Foundation. The July date for the awards evening reflects the alignment of the Tasmanian iAwards with the national iAwards event scheduled for 9th August in Melbourne.

Jared Hill

State Chairman of the Australian Computer Society in Tasmania, Mr Steve Cambridge, praised Mr Hill for his entrepreneurial flair as evidenced by the high growth rate of his successful software services company right through the GFC period and beyond. Mr Cambridge also observed that “Jared’s customer list is extensive; many are large enterprises, both commercial and government. Clearly this young entrepreneur has great relationship skills to have sustained such outstanding results since the inception of his company in 2004”.

Commenting on Jared Hill’s career in ICT, Mr Wayne Fitzsimmons, Chairman, National Committee of the Pearcey Foundation said: ”Jared has been one of the leaders in the adoption of the Systems Interoperability Framework (SIF) into Australia (a systems integration framework for educational data that is used in the US and UK) via nationally funded pilot projects. Jared has led such projects in Tasmania and soon in the ACT. The demonstration of his leadership skills, both locally and nationally in projects such as this, are the very qualities the Pearcey Foundation believes warrant recognition. Jared clearly is one who takes control of situations, inspires confidence in those around him and delivers on his promises. That he has wide interests outside of his professional career – Officer in the Army Reserve, Director of Hockey Tasmania and a committee member of TASICT, and a father of two, underpin the judges’ decision to award the 2012 Tasmanian Pearcey Entrepreneur Award to Jared”.

Mr Fitzsimmons also expressed sincere appreciation for the support of the State Government of Tasmania in making the Pearcey Awards successful and for the ACS, in working closely with the Pearcey Foundation, to promote careers in ICT through this award.
