10 November, 2006 | TAS Awards

2006 Tas Award

The 2006 Tasmanian Pearcey Award was won by Mr Ian Cumming, founder of Insight4. The award was given at a joint Pearcey and ACS function on Friday 10th November 2006.

Ian Cumming

Ian Cumming, BComp BIS(Hons), started his software development firm Insight4 in 2003, during his final year at the University of Tasmania completing his Honours degree in Information Systems. Hard work and late nights working on projects between study paid off, and by 2004 Insight4 had four full time staff and a suite of lucrative contracts, including critical power systems monitoring software for the State Government's Basslink project.

Since then Insight4 has gone from strength to strength, with a growing customer base of corporate and Government clients. A key factor of Insight4's success has been a focus on a strong skill-set of software technologies, coupled with professional project management and a 'can do' approach. Innovative research has also been a focus for the business, which has seen Insight4's involvement with the Tasmanian Partnership for Advanced Computing and it's collaboration with NSF funded partnerships in the United States to develop a GIS search engine for oceans and climate data repositories. 2007 will see Insight4 develop more partnerships both within the local industry and abroad, employ more young Tasmanians, as well as commercialise a number of innovative software technologies.
