As an entrepreneur and inventor, he founded Southern Innovation in 2004 to commercialise technology developed during PhD research at the University of Melbourne. Paul has been involved with all aspects of the launch and development of Southern Innovation, from securing protection of the intellectual property to capital raising, strategic planning, and oversight of the technical development of a product ready for market. He won the 2009 Victorian IBM iAward for Research & Development. Southern Innovation's SITORO technology was initially developed by Professor Rob Evans and Dr Paul Schoullar as part of a research project at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Melbourne in Australia. After more than 10 years of R&D SITORO technology has now been implemented in hardware which is capable of real-time pulse processing at unprecedented levels of speed and accuracy. SITORO has applications in a diverse range of industries where existing radiation detection and measurement technologies can be significantly improved. Relevant industries include forensic analysis, borehole logging, medical imaging, baggage and cargo screening, homeland security, inline industrial measurement, minerals analysis and many more.
