2008 State Pearcey Award for Young Achievers

We encourage you to get in early and apply or nominate someone you know who has made a significant contribution in the ICT industry . You may download a Nomination Form

Award Presentation

The Foundation awards the winner a cash grant, and other prizes received vary between States and sponsorships. As an example, see what our Victorian sponsors generously offered in 2004.

The Award is usually presented at a dinner / conference or ceremony. It is strongly recommended that you are available to attend the ceremony.

Process

Each State has its own Selection committee. It is usually a panel of five or more and includes a Chairperson. The Committee will review all applications based on the Foundation's criteria, relevance to the Award; achievement and experience in the ICT industry. The panel will shortlist candidates and may choose to interview them before making their decision. Usually, the winner will be notified prior to the ceremony and it is recommended that the winner personally attends the ceremony to receive the award.

For further information, see criteria and frequently asked questions below. See our Awards page for previous State Award winners.

FAQs

Q1. What does “early in his or her career” mean?

A. The aim is to give recognition during a career, rather than at the end of one. This means that you need to have spent enough time in your chosen career to make a significant contribution, but are not yet at the 'top of the tree'.

Q2. How would you define innovative and pioneering achievements?

A. Your achievement should make a unique contribution to new knowledge and/or professional practice. It should involve the clever application of IT and have valuable commercial opportunities. Your achievement should be recognised as outstanding by your peers and be above and beyond what is expected as a person in your role.

Q3. Does R&D mean it must be practical, or can it by purely research oriented?

A. The achievement should be both innovative and practical. If the achievement is research oriented, then it needs to have valuable commercial potential. If the achievement is in the novel application of IT using existing technologies, then there must be significant market opportunity.

Q4. Is the Award based on the significance of the technology or innovation?

A. Not necessarily – this is a personal award for the extent of your contribution and, in the pioneering spirit, the risks you have taken along the way.

Q5. If my work is not based in State, am I eligible?

A. Your work should have been primarily done in your state. However its application may be anywhere in the world.

Q6. Can you give me an example of a prize winner.

A. The Pearcey web site lists previous winners under “Awards”. 2004 winners include Luke Howard (Vic), Hugh Durrant-Whyte (NSW), Adrian Di Marco (QLD), Chris Dalton & Anthony Scotney (Tas)and Ross Williams (SA).
