Proposal for a Digital Economy Economic Studies Institute (DEESI)

From Pearcey

The Pearcey Foundation has recognised that Australia needs a combined repository of knowledge and skills about the impact (or potential impact) of ICT and digital media technologies on the Australian economy and broader community.

To address this, the Pearcey Foundation has proposed the establishment of a "hubs and spokes" Digital Economy Economic Studies Institute ("DEESI"), with broad support from most arms of government and industry.

  • The aim of DEESI would be to bring together fragmented and duplicated sets of statistics and analyses scattered among many government, academic and industry organisations.
  • This will enable a clear understanding of the impact and associated opportunities for technology in Australia from which policies, programs, initiatives and activities can be developed to maximise Australia's true capabilities.
  • It is intended that DEESI is a self sustaining institute, supported by services revenue, grants and endowments.
